How to Give Yourself A Pedicure

Achieving a pedicure at home is fairly simple and less expensive than going out to get one. Sometimes, we don’t have the time or money to go and get our nails/feet done every week.
I’ll teach you how to maintain healthy nails at home with items you already have, or only costs a few bucks to get.

What You’ll Need For A Pedi

  • Nail polish remover
  • Cotton balls or cotton pads
  • Nail filer
  • Nail clippers
  • Nail buffer
  • Foot buffer
  • Foot filer for calluses
  • Nail brush
  • Nail scraper
  • Cuticle oil (chap stick works well too but cuticle oil works best, may also use olive oil)
  • Cuticle nipper
  • Foot lotion
  • Mouth wash
  • Cucumber slices
  • Lemon slices
  • Sugar scrub or foot exfoliate
  • Bowl big enough to fit feet filled with warm water
  • Baby oil (cream/oil, or your preferred lotion)

I know it seems like a lot items but trust me each have a purpose and is very important in achieving a perfect pedicure.

Prepping The Feet

Remove All The Nail Polish

Take a cotton ball or cotton pad and soak it in nail polish remover and remove any old polish on the toe nails.

Trim And File Your Toe Nails

Using nail clippers and a nail filer trop and file your toe nails to your desired look.

Cuticle Oil

Add cuticle oil (chap stick or olive oil) to your nails using a cotton ball or pad.

Soak the feet in warm water for 20-30 minutes. Add lemon and cucumber slices along with mouth wash to help remove dead skin and soften up the feet.

Performing The Pedicure

Push Back The Cuticles

After soaking your feet for 20-30 minutes gently pat dry the feet. Using an orange stick, or cuticle pusher, gently push back the cuticles. Don’t forget to clean under the nails.

Hangnails

Clip off hangnails, or cuticles, using a cuticle nipper.

Foot Massage

Give yourself a foot massage with a sugar scrub (honey & sugar mixed together) or by mixing olive oil/vegetable oil with 1 tablespoon of sugar.

Foot Buffing

Sometimes, wearing certain shoes (usually sandals) give our feet a hard time especially for woman. Woman’s shoes are not so comfortable so regular pedicures are required. Taking a foot buffer/foot filer begin to buff the feet removing any calluses and peeing skin.

Moisturize

Gently dry off your feet. Using baby oil in cream form (or any moisturizer of your pleasing) moisturize your feet and give them a little massage. Remove any residue from the nails by using an acetone free nail polish remover. The polish will not stick to your nails if they are greasy.

Paint Your Nails

Make sure you have: a base coat, polish of your choice, and of course a top coat. Using a base coat will help your polish stay on longer also will prevent staining. Using a top coat will help your polish from chipping as will with help staying on longer.

Now you have lovely toes!
I hope this post helped. 🙂
